Police Staff Sergeant Benjie Giron, 48, a traffic investigator with Bacolod Police Station 6 and a resident of Barangay Granada in the city, was identified as the deceased. Regie Buatag, 27, a stay-in at the Palomero Hollow Blocks plant owned by the victim’s cousin and a resident of Hacienda Sian, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, surrendered to the police.
According to the Bacolod Police Station 4 report, Giron went to his cousin’s shop about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday to inquire about volcanic soil. The victim approached the suspect and inquired about volcanic soil.
Because the suspect didn’t know the victim, who was a relative of his employer, he said he’d contact his boss first before giving the victim volcanic dirt. However, according to the suspect’s statement, this is where the fight began after he left.
He said that he was smacked by the enraged victim. Witnesses said the suspect had a knife in his hand, but Buatag said he didn’t have one and was simply trying to steal the victim’s gun after taking it out until it inadvertently detonated in Giron’s stomach.
The sufferer was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He did, however, become out of breath while undergoing treatment. The suspect is being investigated and a case is being made against him.
