Mayor Sara Duterte Withdraws Candidacy for Re-election

SARA DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor went emotional upon her return to the city hall after withdrawing his Certificate of Candidacy (COC).

Recently, presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte withdrew his candidacy for re-election next year. He did not give further details but just cited that he is following what his elder sister and the Davao City Mayor said. A few hours, the Davao City Mayor also withdrew her candidacy.

Mayor Sara has yet to give many details about her decision to withdraw her candidacy for re-election. There are speculations from netizens that the Davao City Mayor will be running for a national position in the Election 2022. She has yet to confirm or deny the speculations.

Prior to the filing of candidacy for Election 2022, the Davao City Mayor is one of the names in survey results for possible presidential candidates next year. Amid calls from her supporters to run for a national position, the Davao City Mayor filed for re-election. She previously sought understanding from her supporters on her decision explaining that she wants to finish her 3rd term in their hometown.

Despite it, supporters of Mayor Sara Duterte remain hopeful that she will change her decision. Changes can be expected until November 15.

Based on a post on ABS-CBN News citing the clip shared by a certain Christian Refuerzo, after withdrawing her candidacy for re-election for mayor, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte went emotional upon her return to the city hall. One of her staff approached her and told her that she will be missed.

Neither Mayor Sara nor her camp has yet to release details on their next move. Speculations about her possible bid for a national post were triggered when vice presidential candidate and Sen. Bong Go previously expressed that changes may take place.
