DILG Says Año To Push For Removal Of Face Shield Policy
FACE SHIELD – According to an executive of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Interior Secretary Eduardo Año will propose a removal of the face shield policy.
Since the pandemic started, the Philippines has become the face shield capital of the world. However, that may finally change in the coming months.
According to DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya: “In the next IATF meeting, I was told that Secretary Año will be proposing na tanggalin na po ang face shield requirement“.
Malaya said that Año would push to remove the face shield requirement except for hospitals. But, he added that the change would be “gradual”.
Additionally, he emphasized that a hospital’s high-risk nature would require the use of face shields. Meanwhile, in other instances, the policy could be lowered.
Currently, the Philippines’ COVID-19 caseload has gone down to previous lows. Based on data from the Department of Health (DOH), the caseload has gone back to pre-Delta variant numbers.
Face shields have become a requirement in the Philippines as the pandemic spread across the country. As such, it has been required in mall entrances, terminals, and other public establishments.
However, most people see it as a nuisance and an “ID to enter” rather than something that protects against COVID-19. What can you say about this? Leave your comments below.
