Teacher in Masbate Gives Free USB Drive, Radio to Students to Help Them in Learning
A kind teacher in Masbate gives free USB drive and radio to her students to help them from distance learning amid the pandemic.
Mary Jean “Jin” Llavares, a Masbate City teacher, has discovered an excellent approach to teach her students via remote learning. Teacher Jin aided her students by providing them a transistor radio with an integrated MP3 player and a USB flash drive, which she used to record the science lectures she teaches at Masbate City’s Nursery Elementary School.
This school year, she claims to be teaching five sections of Grade 4. Since the schools were closed due to the pandemic, Teacher Jin said they had been using printed modular remote learning.
She was also a part of radio-based training to lead students last year. The concept arose as a result of some teachers’ struggles to compose scripts and then the guts to face the camera and broadcast lessons.
“Sabi ko sayang naman sinusulat ng mga guro sana makarating sa mga estudyante ko kaya humingi ako ng tulong sa mga kaklase ko, sabi ko pahingi naman ng pambili ng radyo para sa mga estudyante ko,” she said.
Only one section has been given radios and USB flash drives so far. Teacher Jin uses a USB stick to record her class so that her students can better grasp it.
She explained that the benefit of this is that the student can repeat the lessons. Teacher Jin expressed gratitude to those who provided the materials for her effort as well as those who will assist them with their program.
