Vice President Leni Robredo Explains Why People Must Get the Money Intended to Buy Votes

VICE PRESIDENT LENI ROBREDO – The Vice President who is one of the Election 2022 presidential aspirants revealed his stand over vote-buying.

Talks about the election are undeniably everywhere now most especially on social media platforms. The aspirants for the different positions have also aired their stand regarding certain matters. According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), there is a total of 97 aspirants for the presidential race.

Some of those who filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COC) for president is Vice Pres. Leni Robredo. She is the standard-bearer of the opposition coalition 1SAMBAYAN. She filed her COC as an independent candidate.

In the Philippines, one of the allegations that spark every election is the supposed vote-buying of some candidates to secure a post. Some of the presidential aspirants gave their stand.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Vice President Leni Robredo said that people must take the money intended to buy their votes but must vote according to their conscience. She stressed that vote-buying is not right but the money used to buy the votes belongs to the people so they must accept it.

Vice Pres. Robredo reminded the public to vote according to their conscience and not because of a sort of gratitude or pay back for receiving something from a candidate in exchange for your vote. According to her, there is no way for the political candidates to find out if the people really did vote for them after receiving the money.

Based on the report, Vice President Leni Robredo further expressed that if the politicians who buy votes would lose, they will come to a realization that it is not an effective political strategy and will possibly not consider it again.

Aside from vote-buying, the Vice President has previously aired her stand on the country’s territorial dispute with China. She stressed that PH and China can work together on areas that the two (2) countries are in good terms but with regards to the West Philippine Sea, the nation cannot work with China without the later recognizing the arbitral ruling.
