Oxford Philippines Society Releases Statement over Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos’ Educational Background

Oxford Philippine Society issues a statement clarifying that former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. did not finish his degree.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) got 97 Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) for president in the Election 2022. According to the poll body, it will screen the candidacies to determine if there are candidates who really have no intention to run for public office or what are called the “nuisance candidates”.

Some of the presidential aspirants are known personalities in the political field while most are private individuals. One of the popular presidential aspirants is former Sen. Bongbong Marcos.

Marcos Jr. is the presidential nominee of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. Undeniably, his candidacy triggered the issues about the regime of his late father to cross the surface again. There are also many issues surrounding the former Senator.

More commonly called as “BBM”, one of the issues surrounding former Sen. Bongbong Marcos is with regards to his educational background specifically the one at the University Oxford in 1975.

Recently, Oxford Philippines Society released a statement clarifying that former Sen. Bongbong Marcos “did not finish” his degree and was given a “special diploma”. Based on a report on Daily Guardian, in the statement, it is stressed that Oxford University has already confirmed it in 2015.

Furthermore, it is stated that Marcos Jr. failed the preliminary examination which was a pre-requisite in continuing one’s studies. According to Oxford Philippines Society, the former Senator was given a “Special Diploma in Social Science” and it is not a degree nor can be compared or higher than a degree.

Oxford Philippines clarified that the statement is not politically inclined but in the pursuit of boosting public awareness during these times when fake news and disinformation are rampant.
