4 Men Got Arrested by Police Authorities After Catching Over 6, 000 Wrinkle-Lipped Bats

The police authorities arrest four man for catching over 6, 000 wrinkle-lipped bats in San Miguel, Bulacan. 

The cops were able to arrest four individuals for possessing over 6, 000 wrinkle-lipped bats in San Miguel, Bulacan.  The police officers caught the suspect at Biak-na Bato National Park (BNBNP).

The suspects are supposed to bring the bats at an exotic restaurant. They were supposed to sell the bats for an estimated amount of P90, 000. The suspects have been identified as Rolando Santiago, Reynante Gonzales, Rejie Mangahas, and Ronald Santiago.

Bats are among the list of vulnerable species enlisted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under the Administrative Order No. 2019-09 or the Updated National List of Threatened Philippine Fauna and their Categories.

The suspects would face charges for violating the National Integrated Protected Areas System Law. However, they were able to get out of jail after paying bail for their violation.

Bats are mammals of the order Chiroptera with their forelimbs adapted as wings. They are the only mammals capable of flying. These mammals could fly using their very long spread-out digits covered with a thin membrane or patagium.

These creatures are also are more maneuverable than most birds and considered as the smallest bat, and arguably the smallest extant mammal. Poaching bats are considered as a violation of the environmental law.

Violators could face corresponding sanctions and penalties from the authorities.
