Robredo Asserts Value of Accountability, Transparency in Public Service

Vice Pres. Robredo Speaks on Public Servants Being Accountable, Transparent

ROBREDO – Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo asserted the value of accountability and transparency in public service.

Presidential aspirants have already made their bid official on the first week of the month – the period set by the Commission of Elections (COMELEC) for the filling of the Certificates of Candidacy (COC). One of those who filed her candidacy for president is Vice Pres. Leni Robredo.

The Vice President is undeniably lauded for the excellent rating of her office by the Commission on Audit (COA). Many admire her for not being involved in corruption issues but, as for the second highest official in the government, it is not just about coming out clean but the system that is observed to prevent corruption in an office.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during a program led by the Rotary Club of Manila, Vice Pres. Leni Robredo asserted the value of accountability and transparency in public service. She stressed that it is important for an official to stay incorruptible throughout the term.

According to the Vice President, more than saying that a public servant is not corrupt, it is important that the official makes sure there are “systems in place”. She stressed that there are many different ways to make sure that the officials are accountable and she has filed several bills about accountability when she was in Congress.

The Vice President said that the government offices should make sure that the funds of the public are well accounted for that is why her office is really taking the reviews of the Commission on Audit (COA) seriously. They really work hard to get the “unqualified COA opinion” to show the people that they are prudent in the spending of the public funds no matter how small the amount is.
