Vice President Leni Robredo Unveils Decision on Presidential Bid
VICE PRESIDENT LENI ROBREDO – The Vice President announced her decision on the bid for president in the Election 2022.
Today is the second to the last day of the filing of candidacy. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) set the deadline on October 8, 2021. Several politicians have already announced and made their bid for president, vice president, senator, and other positions official as they filed their candidacy.
Most of the presidential candidates in the next election are backed by political groups which nominated them for the position. The same goes with several vice presidential candidates.
For the opposition coalition 1SAMBAYAN, it nominated Vice Pres. Leni Robredo as its bet for president in the Election 2022. Even before the nomination, the Vice President was vocal about her goal which is to unite the opposition.
According to the Vice President, the opposition must not be divided to avoid two scenarios – the return of Marcos in power and the continuity of the current type of governance. There were confirmed talks about other presidential bets but no further details were discussed.
There were strong calls for Vice Pres. Robredo to run for president next year. Many Filipinos were also eager to know her decision – to which her camp continuously defended that she is weighing things and assured that she will make her decision in due time.
Recently, Vice President Leni Robredo announced her decision. Based on Daily Guardian, the Vice President who leads the opposition will run for president in the Election 2022. She will once again face with former Senator Bongbong Marcos, her former contender in the vice presidential race in 2016.
Other presidential candidates include Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Manny Pacquiao, and Senator Ping Lacson. More updates may be posted soon.
