Isko Moreno is now being tagged “Duterte Lite”
The camp of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno denied that he is the “Duterte Lite” as political discussions are heating up.
Moreno is running for President with Dr. Willie Ong as his running under Aksyon Demokratiko party. When Vice President Leni Robredo filed her certificate of candidacy for President in the 2022 elections, the hasthtag “Withdraw Isko” trended on social media as her supporters wanted the Manila Mayor to withdraw his candidacy.
Prior to the filing of COC, reports surfaced that the VP talked to possible presidential candidates in order to “unify” the opposition. However, this did not happen. In a report from One News PH, Lito Banayo, the campaign manager of Isko Moreno said that the Manila Mayor was sincere when he was dealing with the VP regarding her aim of unification.
“All this time we were made to believe that the Vice President was being an honest broker towards unification, towards uniting the disparate groups in order to come up with a common slate. There were a lot of meeting where they talked and with all due respect to the Vice President, Isko was really sincere in dealing with them,” Banayo said.
Just recently, Moreno and Robredo have been exchanging criticisms against each other. Banayo also pointed out that the VP told them that her aim was to prevent the return of Marcoses and any candidate that will be endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte. That was why they were wondering why the attack was on Mayor Isko. “That’s her purpose. So why are we the ones who should withdraw?” the campaign manager said.
Isko Moreno was also accused of being the “secret candidate” of the administration and he is being called as “Duterte Lite”. Aksyon Demokratiko chairman Ernest Ramel reasoned out that Moreno would not give up running for his second term as Manila Mayor just to be a secret candidate of the Duterte administration.
He added that this attack against the Manila Mayor are just black propaganda. Ramel stressed that people should focus on the platform of a candidate and what he or she has to offer.
During the “Kapihan sa Manila Bay” forum, on October 13, Isko Moreno said that he recognizes both the “mistakes and successes” of the Marcos dictatorship. The presidential candidate also stressed that politics should not be about two opposing political families.
