PSA Warns Public Against Fixers Offering National ID Services Online

The Philippine Statistic Authority (PSA) warns the public against the fixers offering Philippine ID registration online and phishing scams.

The PSA has issued a caution to applicants to stay away from fixers who charge fees for registration services in order to get Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards. To avoid falling victim to phishing scams, the PSA invited people to sign up for the PhilSys initiative online.

First step registration is done using the internet portal www.philsys.gov.ph, according to PSA. The delivery of Philippine Identification (PhilID) cards would continue to be free of charge, according to the advisory.

To avoid scams and exploitation of your personal information, the agency advises only enlisting the support of relatives and trusted acquaintances while enrolling online. The Philippine Post Corporation, the PSA’s official courier partner, would provide real ID cards.

The PSA is also collaborating with law enforcement to apprehend illegal fixers. The public is also urged to be on the lookout for frauds and to report any unlawful PhilSys transactions.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, into law in August 2018, with the goal of creating a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.

The national ID will be a valid proof of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening easier. It will also improve efficiency, particularly when dealing with government services, as people will only need to provide one form of identification during transactions.
