Is Mayor Sara Duterte the Running Mate of Sen. Bong Go?
SARA DUTERTE – The Davao City Mayor was asked about President Rodrigo Roa Duterte‘s claim that she will be the running-mate of Senator Bong Go.
The filing of candidacy to the Commission on Election (COMELEC) is currently ongoing until October 8, 2021. Several incumbent politicians have already filed their Certificate of Candidacies (COCs). Undeniably, several candidacies came as a surprise to the Filipino people.
One of those that are unexpected was when Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go filed his candidacy for vice president as the bet of PDP-Laban Cusi wing. Initially, the bet of the ruling party for vice president was Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
The 76-year-old President accepted the nomination for vice president while Sen. Go who was nominated to be the party’s standard-bearer declined to run for president. According to him, he really does not want to run for president.
Recently, Pres. Duterte announced his withdrawal from his bid for vice president. Instead, it was Sen. Go who filed his COC for vice president under the PDP-Laban Cusi wing.
After announcing her retirement from politics, the President then said that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, will be the running-mate of Sen. Go in the next election. It is despite that his daughter has already filed her candidacy for re-election in Davao City and her previous statement that she won’t be running for the highest position in the government.
Previously, the Davao City Mayor expressed that she and her father have agreed that only one of them will run for a national post in the next election. She even campaigned for support for her father in his supposed vice presidential bid.
Based on a report on GMA News, when Mayor Sara Duterte was asked through a text message about the claim that she will be the running-mate of Sen. Bong Go in Election 2022, the Davao City Mayor had a short response not confirming nor denying the claim.
“No comment,” the presidential daughter said.
