Mayor Isko Moreno To Run for President in 2022 Election
MAYOR ISKO MORENO – The Manila City Mayor is expected to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for president in the 2022 Election today.
Currently, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is down to its last five (5) days for the acceptance of the COCs of those who intend to run for public office in the Election 2022. On October 11, the voter registration period will resume until October 30.
Initially, the deadline set for the voter registration was September 30. However, there are still a lot of people who have yet to register for the upcoming poll and long queues are evident in shopping malls and areas designated for voter registration.
The Congress asked for an extension of the voter registration period for at least one (1) month but COMELEC refused. According to the poll body, it can extend the voter registration period for a week but it cannot afford a 30-day registration.
The Senate and the House of Representatives passed bills seeking to extend the voter registration period. COMELEC met and made an adjustment resulting to its extension from October 11-30, 2021.
Several incumbent politicians have yet to file their COC. One of them is Manila Mayor Isko Moreno who announced his bid for president in the 2022 Election.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Mayor Isko Moreno is expected to file his candidacy for president today. His running-mate, Doc Willie Ong, is also expected to file his COC today.
The tandem of Mayor Isko and Doc Willie undeniably came as a surprise to a lot of people but many were impressed that the capital city’s Chief Executive is partnering with someone from the medical field amid the pandemic now.
It is not the first time of Doc Willie Ong to run for public office. He previously took a senatorial race but lost. According to him, even on the vice presidency, he is not competing with anyone as he is focused on his goal.
