Over 100 Health Workers At St. Luke’s Quarantine Due To COVID-19 Exposure
HEALTH WORKERS QUARANTINED – According to Saint Luke’s Medical Center, over 100 of their health workers had to be placed under quarantine.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, medical frontliners risk their lives daily in order to aid those in need. Furthermore, they also pose a high risk of exposure to patients with COVID-19.
Unfortunately, Dr. Art Dela Peña, the hospital’s President and CEO reported 119 of its staff were quarantined. Based on an article from ABS-CBN, he said:
Hindi naman wonderwomen at supermen ang aming mga nurses. Nagkakasakit din. As of today 119 yung either naka quarantine because nagpositive sa swab o kaya yung iba naman nagkameron ng high risk exposure so kinakailangang i quarantine din. yun po ang nagpapahirap sa amin
Furthermore, the doctor also highlighted that St. Luke’s is now at full capacity in addition to its lack of manpower. As such, he apologized to the public due to the hospital’s situation.
“Medyo mahirap ngayon kokonti talaga ang available na manpower“. Meanwhile, he also stated that the hospital would continue to hire more medical workers.
Recently, several health workers have called out the government for allegedly neglecting their needs amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The overworked medical workers rallied and even threatened to go on strike if their conditions are not met.
However, Peña emphasized that St. Luke’s takes proper care of its nurses when it comes to salary and other benefits. “Alaga namin ang nurses hindi pwedeng pabayaan”, he stated.
