Job Offers On Dating Apps Likely A Scam, Says POEA

POAE Gives Stern Warning Against Job Offers On Dating Apps

DATING APPS NOT FOR EMPLOYMENT – The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned that Job offers on dating apps are likely scams.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, millions of working-class Filipinos have lost their livelihood due to lockdowns. Furthermore, OFWs were affected due to restrictions both within the Philippines and abroad.

Job Offers On Dating Apps Likely A Scam, Says POEA

Meanwhile, OFWs are reported another dire issue – scams on dating apps. Based on an article from ABS-CBN, POEA Administrator Bernardo Olalia highlighted several reports of job offers from online dating apps.

According to Olalia, OFWs should be wary of their partners in such apps, especially if they’re offering employment opportunities abroad. As per the article, she said:

Kayo po ay maging mapanuri kung kayo ay OFW, lalong-lalo na iyong mga partner ninyo diyan sa dating application na iyon ay nago-offer ng employment opportunities…

Huwag po kayong papatol at sigurado po kayo magiging biktima na ng online scam using this dating application

With the availability and ease of access to online dating apps, scammers could find ways to manipulate vulnerable OFWs. Those who are offered jobs are promised not only the prospects of romance but also a chance to provide for families.

Instead, she recommended that OFWs look for legitimate jobs posted on secure websites such as that of the POEA. Furthermore, she noted that remittances from OFWs in 2021 are getting higher due to increased OFW deployment to other nations.
