Parents-Teachers Association Expresses Support for Pilot Implementation of Limited Face-to-Face Classes

The Parents-Teachers Association Federation has expressed its support towards the proposed limited face-to-face classes.

Parents-Teachers Association Federation Secretary General Lito Senieto said that their members are supporting the pilot implementation of the limited physical classes. Senieto’s statement came after President Rodrigo Duterte approved the proposal.

The limited physical classes will be only implemented to over 100 public schools and 20 private schools in areas with low-risk of coronavirus disease. Stricter health protocols will be implemented during the pilot test to prevent spread of COVID-19.

President Duterte approved the proposal after several lawmakers and different groups called for the resumption of face-to-face classes in low-risk areas after education experts warned the prolonged closures may causes negative impacts to students.

A lot of students have been already struggling for having no stable internet access and they find it hard to study under the distance learning system. It may lead students to lose their interest in learning.

Senieto said that the group is ready for the pilot test but some parents were not sure if they would support the program. He also said that the government should carefully plan upon the program’s implementation to ensure the safety of the students.

Alliance of Concerned Teachers Secretary General Raymond Basilio expressed his willingness to support the pilot physical classes but schools must comply the corresponding requirements for everyone’s safety.

“Open kami, suportado namin ang face-to-face classes na ito subalit kailangan gawin ito, kailangan may handwashing facilities, supply ng tubig, maayos ang aming classroom na dapat well-ventilated… at may pondong ilalaan para sa magkakasakit,” Basilio said.
