Isabela Police Involved in Extortion from Drug Suspect in Cauayan City Arrested

Personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested an Isabela police who was accused of extortion against a drug suspect.

During an entrapment operation in Cauayan City, a member of the Philippine National Police was detained on charges of extortion against the province. According to the report of Cauyan City police P/Master Sgt. Sherwin Gamit, an adult inhabitant of Labinab, Cauayan City, was identified as the suspect.

According to the Cauayan City Police Station, the suspect, Gamit, was arrested along with personnel of the Police Regional Office 2’s Regional Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Team (RIMET). Residents claimed they heard a gunshot before the arrest.

Based on the report, a gunshot was allegedly fired while the suspect’s car was being apprehended. The officers blocked his vehicle in an attempt to apprehend the police suspect.

As a result, when the suspect’s vehicle came to a halt, authorities discovered a Cal. 38, Caliber 45 gun and around Php300,000.00 in boodle money inside his vehicle. In the meantime, his uniform and folder containing the documents for the case of the alleged drug suspect were discovered in his car, based on the police report.

The police officer will face criminal and administrative penalties as a result of the report. The suspect’s response to the journalists’ and police’s queries was brief: “I am just a victim here,” he stated, and he did not respond to the questions that followed.
