DILG Chief Apologizes For Roque Tirade Vs Doctors
DILG CHIEF APOLOGIZES FOR ROQUE – Interior Secretary Eduardo Año apologized to the medical community on behalf of presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
Recently, a leaked video of Roque berating doctors during an IATF meeting went viral on social media. However, Roque quickly apologized, not for his message, but for the manner in which it was spoken.
According to Roque, he never regretted or should apologize for his opinion. Furthermore, he stated that in a democratic country, people should respect the opinions of others and vice-versa.
Meanwhile, in a bid to do damage control, Año said that he personally wants to apologize to the health sector. During an interview with CNN Philippines, he said: “That is an unfortunate event that should not have happened“.
But, much like Roque, Año said that the spokesperson had a “valid argument”. Additionally, he explained that it was the way Roque expressed his statements that he had an issue with.
“Of course, we are in the government, but that should not be a privilege for us to shout at anyone. We are all citizens of this country and we should respect each other”
The viral video circulating on social media was leaked on September 10. In the video, you could see Roque in an Inter-Agency Task Force meeting regarding the new relaxed quarantine protocols.
In that meeting, a doctors group expressed their opposition to the plan and warned that Metro Manila and nearby provinces could see more daily COVID-19 cases.
This led to Roque having an emotional outburst. Afterward, he called out the doctors group and said that they had never said anything good about the government’s pandemic response.
