Venice Film Festival jury wants Dennis Trillo to get the Best Actor award also

It turns out that the Venice International Film Festival jury this year also recognized Dennis Trillo as Best Actor, aside from his On The Job 2: The Missing 8 co-star John Arcilla.

It was indeed an honor for the team of OTJ2 and the people in the Philippine movie industry to be recognized internationally. Reportedly, after the screening of the said film by prominent director Erik Matti, the audience gave a five-minute standing ovation.

It was also reported previously that the jury praised the performance of Dennis Trillo as one of the lead stars. In a recent Twitter thread that filmmaker/producer Quark Henares shared, he shared their wonderful experience at the film festival.

His post also revealed that the Kapuso actor was supposed to get the Best Actor recognition as well. Eternals director Chloe Zhao, one of the jury members, said that they really wanted a tie for the Best Actor award but the award-giving body did not allow them.

She said she googled him because she thought he was a real prisoner only to find out he was a matinee idol of some sort,” Henares said about the Chinese director.

He also shared the reaction of Parasite director Bong Joon-ho, the jury president, when he introduced Dennis Trillo to him. “I dragged Dennis to him and yelled “director bong! I produced On The Job and this..” Bong’s eyes lit up and he told Dennis he loved his performance, which surprised me because Dennis is hardly recognizable in the film,” Henares shared as the actor was trying to get an autograph from the South Korean director. Award-winning actresses Cynthia Erivo and Sarah Gadon also lauded the performance of Dennis Trillo.
