Hospital Doctors Skip Work for Days Due to Unpaid Benefits
Several hospital doctors have refused to report to work amid the surge cases of Delta variant due to the unpaid benefits.
Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) president Dr. Maricar Limpin said that most of resident doctors in a major private hospital in Metro Manila have been skipping their duties and responsibilities for two days.
Limpin said that the doctors did not report to work over the nonpayment of their benefits. “That is an area of concern to us — why they did not report for work. They said [it was because of unpaid] benefits,” Limpin said.
Aside from the doctors, other health care workers have resigned amid the increasing cases of COVID-19. Some of them are also skipping their duties due to fear of getting the coronavirus disease.
“That depletes the number of health-care workers in the hospitals, not to mention those who had resigned [for various reasons] … Five [doctors off duty] is a lot and in a hospital, that could disable [its operation],” Limpin added.
Last week, numerous healthcare groups conduct a protest against the government regarding the unpaid allowances and benefits of medical frontliners. The Healthcare Professionals Alliance Against COVID-19 also revealed that hospitals are overflowing with COVID-19 patients.
Last Monday (September 6, 2021), over 500 private hospital employees have gathered to the DOH office in Manila to protest against the delay of the special risk allowances to meals, accommodation, and transportation allowances (MAT).
St. Luke’s Medical Center Employees Association president reiterated that no officials have faced them despite the protest.
