Health Workers Call for Resignation of DOH Chief Duque

Health Workers Speak on DOH, Health Secretary Duque

HEALTH WORKERS – Several groups of healthcare workers went on the road to call for the resignation of Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III.

Among the people who are facing a greater risk daily amid the COVID-19 pandemic are the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers. Tagged as the “frontliners”, they are exposed to a lot of patients daily. Some of them have even decided not to go home to prevent putting their family at risk.

The pandemic has greatly shaken healthcare systems across the globe. Among the deaths recorded were doctors and nurses who lost their lives after contracting the disease in the line of duty. It was an honorable death, to die serving other people, but truth be told that it also left scars in the hearts of their loved ones.

Sadly, amid the risk that the healthcare frontliners are facing daily, many of them claim of lack of sufficient support from the Department of Health (DOH). Many health workers have yet to receive their benefits since 2020.

Previously, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered DOH to release the benefits and incentives of the healthcare workers given a span of 10 days to do it. The Health Department worked on it and the budget was released by the Department of Budget and Management.

However, based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, health workers claimed that not all the recipients have received the special risk allowance (SRA) yet and they have several benefits that were yet to be released – including their meals, accommodation, and transportation (MAT) allowance and their active hazard duty pay.

Healthcare workers of Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC), National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), Philippine General Hospital, Research Institute for Tropical Medicine at Tondo Medical Center gathered on the street to call for the resignation of DOH Sec. Duque.
