Grab PH Banned 100 Delivery Riders in Cebu for Availing Promo for Themselves
A Group of delivery riders in Cebu have sought help from the local government after Grab PH has banned them from availing of promo for themselves.
Almost 100 Grab Philippines delivery riders expressed their dissatisfaction and appealed to Cebu’s local officials for assistance in regaining their livelihood after being supposedly discharged from employment. The delivery riders were accused of alleged fraudulent acts, according to a CDN report.
According to them, Grab PH banned them on June 28, 2021, and July 4, 2021, as a result of taking advantage of a promo from a local restaurant that gives piso delivery and a P20 discount on any order with no minimum orders. Due to the promotion, customers may purchase meals from a local eatery in Cebu City for P2 pesos each pancit canton.

One of the Grab drivers, who requested anonymity, said they took advantage of the promotion late at night because they were hungry. He said that there were no laws prohibiting Grab drivers from using the app outside of work hours and taking advantage of any subsequent promotions.
On July 28, 2021, Grab drivers who had either taken advantage of the promotion were notified that fraudulent activity had been detected in their use of the app. The drivers said that they were banned from the app an hour after receiving the SMS warning.
As a result, they were interviewed by Grab PH Cebu’s local officials in the days that followed for an inquiry. The drivers said that because Grab lost money as a result of the campaign, they were “punishing” the drivers who were booked for it or took use of it.
The drivers approached Cebu City Councilor Nia Mabatid for assistance after the second batch of banned drivers was issued on July 4, 2021. The banning of driving came to an end as well.
More than 100 Grab drivers were briefly suspended before the local government intervened. The councilor asked Grab for an explanation, but received no response after a month, causing Mabatid to bring the matter before the council.
