Duterte Says He “Never Really Recovered” from Motorcycle Accident

Pres. Duterte Mentions Own Motorcycle Accident During Olympic Winners Awarding

DUTERTE – During the awarding of the winners of the Olympics, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte talked about his motorcycle accident.

It is no secret to the public that Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is into motorcycle riding most especially when he was still mayor of Davao City. He used to roam around the city riding his big bike and even his daughter, Mayor Inday Sara, who is now the chief executive of Davao City also does the same.

There were also instances in the past when, just like other motorcycle rides, the President experienced meeting an accident or falling off his bike. He even mentioned it during the awarding of the winners of Tokyo Olympics.

The Philippines bagged several medals during the recent Olympics held. PH’s pride Hidilyn Diaz brought home the gold in weightlifting. The President led the awarding of the winners.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during the awarding of the winners of the Olympics, Pres. Duterte mentioned that he had a “bad spill” from riding a motorcycle. His statement came after his question about what can the Philippines win if they are the ones who will compete.

According to him, he cannot even stand well as he “never really recovered” from the motorcycle accident. He stressed that he cannot be an athlete anymore and he can only be part of the audience who will cheer for the victory of the athletes representing the country.

In 2019, Senator Bong Go claimed that the President fell off his dirt bike when he made a sharp turn. According to him, he landed on his left elbow. However, then-presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo reportedly has a different claim saying that the President fell off as he was reaching for his shoe during parking.

Throughout his term, there were questions on the health of the President but the Palace maintained that he is fine. There were instances when he almost slipped during events and, according to the Palace, those were not extraordinary instances of a person losing his footing.
