In Barangay San Francisco B, there was a gunfight involving the fugitive suspect and the local authorities. Law enforcement officers from Taysan and Lopez were conducting a manhunt for Basia when he fired a caliber.38 revolver at them, prompting them to retaliate, according to Cansilao.
During the arrest after the shootout, the suspect was found to be in possession of a.38 caliber revolver. Basia, 42, escaped from the station last Monday, where he was being held for robbery with frustrated homicide, based on the previous report.
Basia had complained of difficulties breathing, so the duty jailor brought him to the lobby for some fresh air, according to police. The duty jailor subsequently called the Municipal Health Office to have Basia examined, but the detainee slipped away while he was away.
After the incident in Lopez, Basia was taken to the hospital and will face additional accusations for eluding detention. According to Cansilao, he would also be charged with possessing an illegal handgun and engaging in a shootout with law enforcement.
