According to a report made to Batangas Provincial Director Colonel Glicerio Cansilao by Police Captain Billy John Mactal, the chief of the Taysan PNP, the prisoner complained of difficulties breathing and chest pain owing to the cramped cell around 7:00 p.m.

Patrolman Richard Cordero, the on-duty jail guard, was concerned about Basia’s condition and promptly removed him from his cell and took him to the station’s lobby. Cordero then walked away from Basia to call Dra. Daisy Pauig, the town’s medical health officer, for medical guidance.

The prisoner was gone when Patrolman Cordero returned, and he allegedly went through the door behind the police station. The police jail guard went straight to work looking for the prisoner, but he couldn’t find him.

As a result, he reported the occurrence to their commander right away. Following the report, the local authorities promptly started a dragnet and manhunt for the fugitive.
