President Duterte Instructs DOH & Duque to Pay Benefits Due to Health Workers

President Rodrigo Duterte has instructed Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to pay the allowances and benefits of health workers.

On Saturday morning (August 21, 2021), President Duterte had his taped public address and discussed several issues in the country including the payment of allowances for medical frontliners.

Duterte made the statement after several groups’ protests over the delayed payments. He also urged the DOH secretary Duque to pay the volunteers who helped the government’s COVID-19 inoculation program.

“Unahan na lang kita. May pera man sabi nga, ang pera obligated na… Babayaran lahat ‘yung nagrereklamo na frontliners about their allowances, about whatever, pati…itong mga volunteers na nagbakuna,” Duterte said.

Earlier this week, the country’s leader also ordered the Department of Health to prioritize the payment due to health employees. The payment covers the medical frontliners from both public and private hospitals.

Previously, some groups of medical employees are complaining about the removal of meal and transportation allowances as well as the non-release of the special risk allowance.

“I am now ordering, this is now an order, Secretary Duque. Bayaran mo (Pay them). Use whatever money there is. Bayaran mo ang mga hinihingi ng (Pay whatever that is due to the) nurses both in government and those outside of our government na volunteers,” the president added.

A few weeks ago, Filipino nurses warned the government of mass resignation if they will fail to receive the benefits and allowances due to health workers.
