Malacañang Speaks on Metro Manila Quarantine Measure Until August 31

Malacañang – The Palace announced the new quarantine measure that will be implemented in Metro Manila until August 31, 2021.

The Delta variant, currently a variant of interest because of its higher transmissibility, reached the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) recorded cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 among returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) and as well as local transmissions.

The increasing cases of coronavirus and the presence of the Delta variant in PH sparked alarms to the people. To prevent the spread of the Delta variant, stricter community quarantine measures were implemented.

From August 6 until today, the whole Metro Manila is under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) measure. Today is the expiry date of the strictest level of quarantine measure imposed in the capital region.

Recently, Malacañang announced the new community quarantine measure in Metro Manila. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque expressed that Metro Manila will be under Modified ECQ or MECQ from August 21-31, 2021.

According to the report, the Malacañang spokesman expressed that dine-in services in al fresco and and in-door restaurants will still not be allowed in Metro Manila. Furthermore, the operation of barbershops and beauty salons and other personal care establishments will still not be allowed as well.

Metro Manila has a population of around 13 million people. Previously, the mayors of the different cities in the capital region talked with the DOH over the next quarantine measure to be implemented. The chief executives of the different cities agreed to leave the decision to the inter-agency task force.

The LGUs assured to boost its campaign for COVID-19 vaccines and to strengthen the contact tracing in the pursuit to arrest the spread of COVID-19. Vaccination continued in Metro Manila even amid the ECQ.
