Mayor Isko Moreno No Show at Launching of the Cash Aid Distribution

Mayor Isko Moreno was having cough and colds so he decided not to attend the launching of the releasing of the cash aid in Binondo.

The Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), the highest level of quarantine measure, is once again imposed in the whole Metro Manila amid the increasing cases of COVID-19. The presence of the Delta variant has sparked alarms as well.

The Delta variant is currently the “variant of concern” across the globe as it is known to spread faster compared with other coronavirus variants. It was first recorded in India but Delta cases have been detected in several nations across the globe now.

In PH, there are already local transmissions of the Delta variant. It ignited calls for stricter community quarantine measures and protocols to prevent its spread.

The ECQ in Metro Manila is from August 6 to August 20. Many businesses are not allowed to operate thus a lot of households are also financially affected most especially those that earn on a daily basis.

To help the people, the national government extended financial assistance to the poorest of the poor. The distribution of the fund has started.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Manila Department of Social Welfare spearheaded the distribution of the cash aid in the capital city. However, in the launching of its releasing in Binondo, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno was not able to attend.

According to the report, Social Welfare Officer-in-Charge Ma. Asuncion “Re” Fugoso, the office of the Mayor said that Mayor Isko Moreno is feeling unwell so he decided not to go to the venue. He is having cough and colds.

Fugoso further expressed that the Mayor has yet to test for COVID-19. They are hoping that he is not infected citing that they still have a lot to do. According to her, the Mayor is recently working closely with Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna who recently tested positive for coronavirus.
