Aklan Hospitals on Critical Level, Governor Miraflores Confirms
AKLAN HOSPITALS – Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores expressed that the hospitals in his province reached the critical level.
The Philippines is on a tougher battle against the spread of COVID-19. This coronavirus disease has mutated to several variants that one, the Delta variant, is known to have higher transmissibility. It is currently the variant of concern across the globe.
PH is one of the nations that logged cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19. According to the Department of Health (DOH), local transmissions were recorded in several areas in the country. Hospitals were asked to boost their preparedness for the possibilities that the variant of concern may bring.
In India where it was first recorded, the Delta variant caused a spike in the coronavirus cases. Their healthcare system collapsed and many people lost their lives. The said variant was also a factor in the surge in the cases in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and several other countries.

However, in the province of Aklan, there is a surge in the COVID-19 cases but it was yet confirmed if there are Delta infections among the cases. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Aklan hospitals reached the “critical level” amid the increasing coronavirus cases in the province.
According to the report, the spike in the COVID-19 cases in Aklan started in May. Beta variant was logged in the province. Governor Florencio Miraflores aired their suspicion that the Delta variant has entered their province that is why almost everyone in a family gets infected.
The Aklan Governor expressed that in most cases, once one of the family member tested positive for COVID-19, all of them are also positive for the disease. They are currently waiting for the results that might confirm the presence of the variant of concern in their province.
Unfortunately, amid the surge in the COVID-19 cases in the province now, Aklan hospitals reached the critical level and over 80% of the occupancy rate of the province’s COVID-19 referral center is utilized. It is a hospital with 300 beds.
Currently, strict protocols against COVID-19 are back in the province. It is under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until August 15.
