Danaya role in Encantadia was already given to Sanya Lopez but this happened
Kapuso actress Sanya Lopez revealed that the role of Danaya, one of the Sang’gres in GMA’s fantasy series Encantadia, was already given to her but this decision was retracted.
Sanya just recently finished her primetime series First Yaya. One of the biggest roles that she did that boosted her career was being Danaya. However, she had to audition for this role that was initially given to her.
The Kapuso actress shared the story about this during a recent interview, based on the article in the Philippine Entertainment Portal.
“Nag-audition ako nang ilang beses pero muntik-muntikan po iyon. Hindi ko alam kung dapat ko bang sabihin ngayon. Iyong Danaya na sinabi na sa akin ‘tapos biglang nabawi siya ‘tapos nagpa-audition ulit,” Sanya Lopez revealed. Other actresses who auditioned for the said role were Louise delos Reyes, Ritz Azul, and Thea Tolentino.
Initially, Sanya auditioned for the role of villains, Agane and Gurna, then, she tried to bag the major roles of Lira and Mira. She was told to audition for the Danaya role, later on, and she got that part.
However, this leaked on social media and she received bashing. Many Encantadia fans, as the first one was done in 2005, questioned her ability to play one of the major roles in the series.
With this, the management decided to pull her out of the series but Sanya said that she understood this because she was still a newbie back then. She thought of pursuing a career in pageantry if the Encantadia stint did not push through.
However, Danaya was really meant for Sanya Lopez as she was told again that the role was for her. “Pero noong sinabi sa akin ng pangalawang beses, mas naiyak ako kasi ‘Lord, ito na talaga! Thank you po, thank you talaga,’” the actress said.
