Will Pres. Duterte Run for Vice President in the 2022 Election?
DUTERTE – As the Election 2022 is getting near, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke on his previous state over a bid for vice president.
Several terms in the government are about to end. Next year, another national election is set to take place and many people are already curious on who might be the next president of the Republic of the Philippines.
Surveys got consistent names on their results but none has yet to confirm a bid for president in the next political race. Aside from it, there is another thing that makes a lot of people wonder – will Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte run for another post in the national government?
Previously, the 76-year-old President expressed that he has no intention to run for another position again in the next election. According to him, he will be retiring from politics after his term as the Chief Executive ends and he will go home to Davao City.

On the other side, there are calls for the President to run for vice president in the next election. Some of his partymates in PDP-Laban asked him to reconsider his decision and think about running for vice president in the next election. They believe that he will be a big help in the government most especially amid the COVID-19 crisis now.
Amid speculations on what might happen in Election 2022, Pres. Duterte previously told the public to consider him as a candidate for vice president. It gained different reactions from the people and many are wondering if the Chief Executive is serious about it.
Recently, Pres. Duterte spoke about his previous statement about the bid for vice president. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he expressed that it was just a threat to the oppositions.
“Ako naman, ‘yung vice president [bid] ko, pangtakot lang sa kanila ‘yan. Sabi ko let us see,” the Chief Executive expressed.
According to the President, he will run for vice president in the next election if it is good for the Philippines but he will not if it will not contribute anything to the country. He stressed that it will just be a waste of time if he will run but he cannot contribute anything.
Meanwhile, Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo told him that there is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits him from seeking a vice presidential post. According to him, the Chief Executive is criticized over the possibility of running as he will really win in case he does.
