Update in Mindanao COVID-19 Cases & Call of OCTA Research Group
MINDANAO COVID-19 CASES – The OCTA Research Group is calling to the government to send health workers to Mindanao.
The Philippines has yet to win the fight against COVID-19. Every day, the Department of Health (DOH) still records new cases of the disease and the authorities urge everyone to not let their guards down. It has been a year now since the pandemic started.
Even the World Health Organization (WHO) was surprised then by how fast coronavirus spread across the globe. Community quarantine measures are still imposed in PH as part of the fight against the pandemic.
Previously, following a spike in the cases of the disease, the national government placed the whole NCR and the provinces of Laguna, Bulacan, Rizal, and Cavite under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) measure. Currently, these areas tagged as the NCR Plus are under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened measures.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 cases in provinces now are increasing. DOH recorded an increase in the Mindanao COVID-19 cases and the OCTA Research Group is calling for the government to send aid.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the OCTA is calling for the government to send healthcare workers to Mindanao amid the rise of the COVID-19 cases. Professor Ranjit Rye expressed that both the manpower and the equipment must be given a boost in Mindanao most especially in areas where there is a possibility that hospitals will reach the full capacity.
According to Dr. Guido David, as for their group’s perspective, Davao City in Mindanao can be considered as another epicenter of the coronavirus in the country. They also classify Western Visayas as among the epicenters now.
DOH put down the claim of the group and stressed that it continues to monitor the situation in Davao City and it is not an epicenter of the virus. The government has raised the quarantine measure in the city amid the increase in the cases.
