President Duterte To Jail People Refusing Vaccine? Officials React

Government officials react to threats of President Duterte to jail those who refuse to get vaccinated.

PRESIDENT DUTERTE – Here’s the take of these government officials over the threat of President Duterte to jail persons who do not want to get vaccinated.

After a year of being in a miserable situation dealing with the highly dangerous and highly contagious coronavirus, COVID-19 vaccines from various companies were finally created and started rolling out for the people. People from all around the world are already having doses and in the Philippines, there’s a list of groups released as to who must be prioritized.

However, despite the fact that the vaccines are safe, the several types differ in the percentage of their efficacy and how they would be administered. Just like the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, both must be given in two doses. There are also some expected side effects such as swelling at the injection site, fatigue, body aches, headaches, and less commonly, fever.

In the country, there are still a lot of people who remained hesitant to get a jab. And with this, President Rodrigo Duterte spewed threats that if they continue to refuse to get vaccinated, he might have them jailed. The Chief Executive said in his warning, “Don’t get me wrong. There is a crisis being faced in this country. There is a national emergency. Kung ayaw mong magpabakuna, ipaaresto kita.”

Several government officials have reacted to this. Among is DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevara who expressed that Duterte certainly knows that getting vaccinated is a “legal choice”. DOH Undersecretary Myrna Cabotahe stressed that the vaccine is “free and prior informed consent” while Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that there will be a need for a law for this to happen.
