Former Tricycle Driver Now Sells Over 400 Kg of Fried Chicken per Day

A former tricycle driver now owns six fried chicken stores and could sell over 400 kilograms of chicken everyday.

The 29-year-old Pangasinense Joymar Olarte earns success with his fried chicken business although he had no experience in business. The guy is a former merchandiser and tricycle driver.

The successful man started J & J Tasty Fried Chicken four years ago and he was able to survive amid the coronavirus pandemic. His fried chicken recipe came from their family friend in Urdaneta.

Olarte’s friend named Inggo Baya who came all the way from Zambales to Pangasinan to start a chicken business. Unfortunately, he returned to his hometown and offered the recipe to Joymar.

Inggo reportedly bought the recipe for P250, 00 and it is used in cruise ships. However, Joymar did not pay attention to it until he tried the recipe to the chicken brought by his wife.

The former trike driver used his P2, 300 savings to buy 20 kilograms of fresh chicken and sell it along Urdaneta. He was surprised that all fried chickens got sold out in just a couple of hours. He sells the fried chicken at P10 for the neck part and P20 for leg, wing, thigh, and breast part.

“On our first day of selling, nagulat kami kasi bandang 5PM ubos na ang tinda naminkinulang sya, Then, yung napagbentahan namin, ibinili namin ulit ng manok at ibinenta namin kinabukasan. Hanggang sa nagtuluy-tuloy na sya.” Joymar said.

Throughout the years, the business becomes successful although they have experienced hardships during the COVID-19 lockdown. After the lockdown, their sales got tripled and thanked his employees for staying with them through hard times.

Marami kayong pagdadaanan na pagsubok, “Pero laban lang tayo, kasi wala pang nalulugi na nagtitiwala kay Lord,” Olarte said.

The entrepreneur was also recognized for being resilient, hardworking and innovative amid the health crisis after he was chosen as one of the ten honorees at the 18th Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards (CMA).
