Is it true that Arjo Atayde and Aiko Melendez will run for the same position in Quezon City?
Rumor has it that actor Arjo Atayde will run for congressman in the 5th District of Quezon City which allegedly is the same position that actress Aiko Melendez aims to have in the 2022 elections.
Previously, speculations surfaced that Arjo will venture into politics due to articles stating that he gave relief goods with his name written on eco-bags and it was not yet revealed what barangay or district the actor has done this.
Based on the article in Bandera, during a recent interview, Aiko Melendez confirmed that she will be running for congresswoman of Dist. 5 in Quezon City. She was living in Dist. 2 before but she already transferred to Dist. 5 last year.
In the interview, Aiko said that she is thankful that Arjo will not be her opponent in the same position. Sylvia Sanchez, the mother of Arjo Atayde, who is also close to Aiko Melendez confirmed this.
“Naku, nu’ng nagkausap kami ni Ate Sylvia at sinabi nga niya na hindi kami magkalaban ni Arjo, sobrang nagpasalamat ako. Naku, hindi ko kakayanin ‘yun mahal ko sina kuya Art at ate Sylvia,” Aiko said.
The Kapuso actress added that many people have been encouraging her to go back to public service even before the pandemic. In line with her political career, Aiko said that her boyfriend Zambales Vice Governor Jay Khonghun is the one talking to those who are convincing her to run.
“’Yung mga taong kumakausap sa akin mula sa Quezon City si Vice Gov ang kinakausap more than me. Mga politiko rin from Quezon City, mga LGU’s. Di ba, supposedly naman talaga last election I was supposed to run kaya lang I had to stay with Vice Gov and since naman ngayon he has to be with me when I run,” the actress shared.
