Update in Digos City, Davao del Sur amid COVID-19 Cases Spike

Digos City in Davao del Sur is placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) again until June 27 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

The COVID-19 pandemic is still the Philippines’ biggest challenge now. This continues to put the health of the people at risk and the economy very affected as well. The whole country is still under community quarantine measures in the efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

Over one (1) million cases of COVID-19 has been recorded in the Philippines already. The whole National Capital Region (NCR) and the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna were previously placed back under the strictest community quarantine measure, the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), due to a spike in the cases.

Meanwhile, the quarantine measure in the NCR Plus has already been eased. They are now under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened measures and there is also a recommendation that it will be place under ordinary GCQ soon.

However, some provinces outside the NCR are experiencing a spike in the COVID-19 cases. Based on a report in ABS-CBN News, Digos City in Davao del Sur is placed under GCG again due to the rise in the coronavirus cases in the city.

Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas signed the Executive Order No. 24 placing Digos City under GCQ from June 14 to June 27, 2021. Based on the report, EO contained that an average of 13 daily cases is recorded in the city from May 7 to June 3. A total of 92 cases was recorded in the city.

Under GCQ, the residents are ordered to stay at home and only essential purposes will be allowed inside. The frontliners and the essential workers are exempted from the stay-at-home order. Everyone must continue to wear face shield and face mask in all public places.

Furthermore, health and sanitation measures and the strict implementation of social distancing must be observed in all establishments like pharmacies that are allowed to operate. The government offices must operate in a skeleton workforce mode.

Digos City will also have a curfew hours from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. With regards to the public transportation, only 50% of the PUJ’s total capacity is allowed. In a tricycle, only three (3) passengers are allowed. Only one (1) passenger aside from the driver is allowed in a motorcycle.
