Cebu City Police Sets Security Plans for Independence Day Protests

The Cebu City Police has already prepared security plans for the expected protests and rallies on Independence Day.

CCPO’s deputy director for operations Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla said that they are ready for rallies on the country’s 123rd commemoration of Independence Day (July 12, 2021).

Parilla said that the police force have set the security plans last Monday (June 7). The cops have already considered the areas wherein militant groups are expected to conduct their protests. Police personnel will be deployed at those areas.

The police official said that two platoons of Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) personnel and one team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) together with investigators will be deployed.

“Naa tay standby starting June 9, mga CDM platoons, just in case dunay mga rally nga mudaghan and if needs to be dispersed,” Parilla said. 

The protesters are expected to gather along Osmeña Boulevard, Colon Street, and Plaza Independencia, which were the areas regularly used for rallies and demonstrations.

The authorities also urged the rallyists to comply with the health protocols during the protest. The protests during the past few years have been peaceful.
