Catriona Gray is raising her flag with this inspiring song
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray talked about her new single Raise Your Flag (R.Y.F.) and how it can uplift people amid whatever the crisis and challenges.
Catriona stressed that this song goes beyond the world of pageantry. To recall, “raise your flag” became extra popular when the Fil-Aussie beauty queen competed and won the fourth Miss Universe crown for the Philippines.
The song was written by Trisha Denise and ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo in 2019 and it is inspired by the striking statement of Catriona about “raise awareness and advocate different social movements,” based on the article in The Philippine Star.
R.YF. was originally recorded by KZ Tandingan with a rap verse written and performed by Kritiko. Now that Catriona Gray has the chance to record the song, she is definitely grateful. Lending her voice for the song is similar to her Miss Universe stint, she said.
Through the beauty pageant platform, she also lent her voice for the advocacy she is fighting for. She also said that the song is not exclusive to the pageant stage. It is about “all of our journeys, believing in ourselves, and standing up for what is right,” she said.
When asked what is her favorite line in the song, Catriona said that it is the chorus as it reflected the entirety of the message that the song wants to convey.
“Raise your flag/ For the ones who think they can’t get somewhere/Raise your flag/For the ones who think no one believes in them/Raise your flag/For the ones who already feel like giving up/I stand here, not as one/For we’re all in this together…”
Catriona Gray also stressed that this can inspire people who are going through a rough time and it can show empathy to those who are disheartened.
