Here’s what Catriona Gray said about her “imitators”
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray reacted to “copycats” of her looks in the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant as well as her “Lava Walk”.
Indeed, Catriona has set the bar higher when it comes to how a beauty queen should be. During her time when she competed, it was easy for pageant fans to identify her from the rest of the group. She has shown how prepared she was to bring the fourth Miss Universe crown for the Philippines.
After her reign, it is inevitable for pageant fans to comments that some Miss Universe contestants are imitating her looks and how she walks on stage. During the 69th Miss Universe pageant, Pinay beauty queen MJ Lastimosa even said in a video that Miss Thailand was imitating the Miss Universe 2018.
In line with this, Catriona Gray was asked about her opinion on this “copycat” issue. She refused to use the term “copycat” as she prefers to call it “resemblance”, based on the article in ABS-CBN News.
“I don’t know if I agree with the term of copycat. I understand the resemblance perhaps to my brand, because I was very consistent with the ear cuff and the turns, and the slit in the dress. My brand was very consistent, from my nationals to Miss Universe,” she explained.
She added that there is resemblance in silhouettes however, she is not taking the credit when it comes to the side part. Catriona said that it is not hers to own.
The Fil-Aussie beauty queen also said that if a contestant wants to channel that kind of style, they can own it and for her, this is not something to be perceive as a disadvantage.
“If they’ve gone for that style, it means that they feel beautiful and confident in that. And who are we to say that, you know, it affects their journey?” she stressed.
What can you say about this?
