OWWA Confirms OFW Died in Quarantine Hotel in Cebu

OFW – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) confirmed that an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) died during her stay in a quarantine hotel in Cebu.

Currently, there are a lot of protocols implemented in line with the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone must wear a face mask and practice social distancing when going in public places. Most establishments like malls require a face mask and a face shield upon entry.

The national government now is vaccinating the people in the efforts to achieve population protection. The vaccination program prioritize the healthcare workers and their families, the senior citizens, the individuals who have co-morbidities, and those overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who are set to go abroad soon.

OFWs who are departing and arriving in the Philippines have to abide by the quarantine protocols. Currently, OFWs who arrived in the country must be under a facility-based quarantine for ten (10) days and must undergo swab testing on the 7th day since their arrival.

People who arrive in the country can do their quarantine in a facility or in a hotel. With regards to the latter, it can be shouldered by the company that the person is working for or it would be private expenses of the person.

Recently, in a quarantine hotel in Cebu, an OFW identified as Geraldine Dasalya unexpectedly died. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) confirmed the death of the 30-year-old Pinay worker.

Speaking to TeleRadyo, OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac expressed that the OFW went through and passed the screening at the airport and even before entering the quarantine facility.

According to the OWWA Administrator, Dasalya is residing in Luzon and her remains are set to be brought to her hometown. Cacdac assured that they are already coordinating with her family and they will help her family. Investigations are done on her death.
