Keep GCQ In Metro Manila, Says Mayors

KEEP GCQ – Mayors of Metro Manila wanted to retain the general community quarantine level in the province.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Metro Manila and four nearby provinces were categorized into the “NCR Plus bubble”. During March and April, these provinces were under strict lockdown due to surges in COVID-19 cases.

Following this, case loads were on a decline leading to the provinces lowering restrictions. Meanwhile, in Metro Manila, the mayors agreed to retain the quarantine status of the province.

Furthermore, they wanted meeting centers, conferences, and exhibits to operate with “limited capacity”. Along with this, public amusement attraction would be allowed with the 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. curfew remaining.

During an interview with ABS-CBN, Parañaque mayor Edwin Olivarez, who serves as Metro Manila council chairman, said:

Ang recommendation ng Metro Manila Council ay GCQ pa rin po tayo pero may kaunting pagbubukas ng kaunting negosyo…

Di po tayo pwede magrelax. Alam po nating bumababa ang cases at utilization ng healthcare pero di po tayo kailangan magrelax para totally ma-contain ang COVID na ito
.

Along with the lockdowns and curfews, several Local Government Units (LGUs) in the provinces have already encouraged residents to get vaccinated with raffles and other incentives. Meanwhile, Olivarez said they are in coordination with several LGUs to have a uniform policy regarding this.

Currently, the Philippines’ eyes 500,000 COVID-19 vaccinations daily in key areas such as Metro Manila, Metro Davao, Cebu, and 6 urban areas to reach herd immunity by November.

However, there was recently a shift of priority from the Department of Health saying the goal now is “population protection” instead.
