PH Government Urges Senior Citizens To Get COVID-19 Vaccine Jabs

PH Government Speaks on Low Vaccination Rate Among Senior Citizens

PH GOVERNMENT – Philippine vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. urges senior citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

One of the targets now in line with the fight against the spread of COVID-19 is the herd immunity. It can be achieved by vaccinating a huge part of the populace against the said coronavirus.

In the vaccination ladder, the top priority is the group of healthcare workers which includes doctors, nurses, and medical staff – the “frontliners” on the fight against the pandemic. Several vaccine brands arrived in the country – Pfizer, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca.

The next in line in the vaccination drive are the senior citizens. Ever since the start of the pandemic, the authorities urge the seniors to be extra careful as they may be more susceptible to the virus.

However, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, PH government vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. expressed that only 11% of the senior citizens population got vaccinated against COVID-19. He stressed that there is hesitancy on the part of those who are 60 years old and above.

Galvez urges the senior citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 citing that more than 60% of the casualty in the Philippines due to coronavirus are seniors. Based on the report, as of this writing, more than one (1) million people in the country are fully-vaccinated – part of the 3.5 million people who received the jabs.

The PH government aims to vaccinate a minimum of 70 million Filipinos to achieve the COVID-19 herd immunity. However, the Department of Health (DOH) said that the herd immunity may not be achieved this year. The Health Department cited the delays in the delivery of the vaccines.

The Philippines has already talked to India about the vaccines but the latter is still facing a huge challenge now due to the pandemic. It experienced a worst scenario as the spike in the cases took place leaving their hospitals crowded with patients.
