New COVID-19 Cases in Metro Manila Drops As Cases Outside NCR Plus Spike, Health Department Says
The Department of Health reported that the new COVID-19 cases with in Metro Manila and rest of Luzon declines while the cases outside NCR Plus surges.
On Thursday (May 27, 2021), OIC-Director of the Department of Health’s Epidemiology Bureau Dr. Alethea De Guzman reported that the agency recorded an average of 5,130 new COVID-19 cases on daily basis.
The numbers have been recorded from May 19 to 25, 2021 nationwide. It is lower compared to 5,848 average cases recorded from May 12 to 18. The department aims to bring down the cases to 2, 000 per day.
De Guzman said that the new cases in Metro Manila and most parts of Luzon continue to decrease this month. Metro Manila recorded an average of 1,049 cases from May 19 to 25, which draw nears to the 431 cases goal per day.
The DOH official noticed that the cases outside NCR Plus are already increasing. NCR plus covers the area of Metro Manila and the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Bulacan.

“In Visayas and Mindanao, nakikita natin na unti-unti na talagang tumataas. This is higher than the increase we saw and relayed last week,” the health official said.
