Brand Agnostic Vaccination Directive Implemented In Metro Manila

BRAND AGNOSTIC VACCINATION – Picky with vaccines? Well, you may not have a choice with Metro Manila’s new “Brand agnostic” vaccine announcements.

As more and more vaccine brands arrive in the Philippines, the higher the chances for accomplishing “herd immunity”. However, a large percentage of the Filipino public opt not to get vaccinations.

Meanwhile, thousands of those who do want vaccinations have particular brands in mind. Currently, the majority of the vaccines the Philippines has are Sinovac shots. But, with the sentiments against China, the public want Western Vaccines such as Pfizer or Moderna.

As such, Parañque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, during an interview with Teleradyo, said:

Ngayon po pina-iimplement namin ngayon, hindi po innaanounce na po yung vaccine sa particular vaccination center

Surely, this directive, although would make things faster, might pose issues when it comes to the medical principle of consent. In light of this, Olivarez said they are convening with the Metro Manila Council to address the issue.

Still, he emphasized that all vaccines have passed through clinical trials and studies. “Ibig sabihin, lahat ng vaccine na inaprubahan at binigyan ng EUA ay safe at meron pong efficacy para makaprotekta para sa ating pandemic na COVID-19“, he added.

In Parañaque, four vaccines have circulated – Sinovac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V. Among the vaccines mentioned, Olivarez said that they had not received reports of adverse side effects.

Unfortunately, the Philippines does not have a surplus of COVID-19 vaccines available for the public. Because of this, more vaccines are being ordered to achieve the government’s goal of vaccinating 70 million Filipinos against the virus.
