Rabiya Mateo: Possible reasons why she didn’t win the Miss Universe crown

An analysis on why Rabiya Mateo failed to bring the 5th Miss Universe crown

These are the possible reasons why Filipina beauty queen Rabiya Mateo did not win the Miss Universe crown in the 69th edition of the world’s most prestigious pageant.

Pinoy pageant fans, even before the Miss Universe season started, have been anticipating the potential of the beauty queen from Iloilo City to bring home the 5th crown for the Philippines.

However, many fans got dismayed that Rabiya was not included in the Top 10. Based on the article by Earl D.C. Bracamonte in The Philippine Star, these are the possible reasons why the Ilongga beauty queen failed to make it to her end goal.

One of the reasons was that possibly she was not the type of the judges. Although pageant fans can vote for their favorite candidates to be included in the Top 21, the rest of the pageant’s result depended on the choices that the jurors made.

Behind the candidate’s beauty, intelligence, and overall bearing, the judges still have the final say. Another possible reason was that the Miss Universe Organization did not see Rabiya as the perfect representation of its brand. In a previous article, one of the judges Brook Lee explained what they are looking for in the new Miss Universe, and that was why Miss Mexico Andrea Meza won. It is because they are looking for a girl who excelled in all categories and someone who can represent the MUO.

The candidate’s advocacy should be in line with the organization’s aim, as well, the columnist pointed out. “While at the surface all looks polished and glamorous, beneath are much mud-slinging and political maneuvering,” Bracamonte said.

Aside from these, the pageant experience of the candidate plays a major role also. Since Rabiya Mateo is a newbie, it is a given fact that those who already pageant veterans can devour her onstage.

The columnist added that one factor is also important and it is “destiny”. If something that was really meant to happen will eventually happen. “I hope the organizers learn from their lapses and oversights when they field the country’s next representative to the 70th Miss Universe in December,” Bracamonte said.
