Why the judges think that this year’s Miss Universe crown is for Andrea Meza
Miss Mexico Andrea Meza deserved the 69th Miss Universe crown due to this statement coming from Miss Universe 1997 Brooke Lee as one of the judges.
After the recently-concluded edition of the world’s most prestigious pageant, various reactions were expressed on social media regarding the result.
Many pageant fans were surprised that Miss Peru was called when the second runner-up winner was announced while some thought that Miss Brazil will be crowned this year.
However, based on the article in The Philippine Star, Brook Lee has this statement regarding what they are looking for the deserving queen to have.
In an interview a few hours before the coronation night, the Miss Universe 1997 said that now, they are “looking for an overall contestant”. That means they intended to find a candidate who excel in all categories or at least does very well.
“We’re looking for an overall candidate or at least, you’ll say that represents the brand, that speaks of authenticity. And if she’s living the life she says that she is when we ask her in the interview. If she says she’s gonna be a plastic surgeon, is she talking about that when she’s in the interview? Is her passion where she says it is?” she said.
She added that the candidate who is living the life and shows authenticity deserves to be crowned Miss Universe 2020.
“They’re looking for someone who’s living a life and that life shines through on the stage – and that the pageant will help her elevate those messages. That’s what they’re looking for – authenticity!” the crowned Miss Universe from Hawaii stressed.
Apparently, the judges have seen these qualifications in Andrea Meza, the third Miss Mexico who brought home the Miss Universe crown.
