DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte asked the help of Chinese President Xi Jinping over the COVID-19 vaccines amid the pandemic now.

The Philippines is one of the many nations and territories across the globe that is currently on a fight against the spread of COVID-19. This coronavirus disease has taken a lot of lives and is visibly a huge battle to face. Some countries now are facing another spike in the cases of the disease.

PH is one of those that recently recorded a spike in the cases. The total count has surpassed the one (1) million mark and the whole nation now remains under community quarantine measures.

Part of the fight in curbing the spread of COVID-19 is achieving the herd immunity. A lot of countries now are in the vaccination process.

Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte revealed that he had a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping when the Philippines has yet to get vaccines against COVID-19.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Duterte expressed that he asked the help of Pres. Xi as the Philippines was “at a loss on how to get the vaccines”. According to him, the Chinese President assured that he will help and there was no demand in exchange for it.

“Hindi naman sinabi kalimutan mo iyong Scarborough Shoal,” the President said.

China has sent Sinovac vaccines to the Philippines. It also did send Sinopharm but the Philippine President recently requested to just send Sinovac over clearance matters.

Currently, the territorial dispute between the Philippines and China is still ongoing. The latter did not honor the verdict of the international tribunal siding the former on its claim of ownership with regards to the disputed islands.
