The foreigner underwent COVID-19 testing on April 15 in preparation for his return to Dubai. The foreigner tested positive for the N501Y COVID-19 version on April 17. The Filipina registered to a government facility on April 18 because she was a close friend. She tested positive for the same mutation as well.
The Filipina’s brother, who was also in close contact with the Indian engineer, attended a birthday party with three OFW friends on the same day. The NF01Y COVID-19 variant was found in one of the three OFW visitors on April 30. The OFW even infected his employer’s 10-month-old boy.
The two other OFWs tested positive for the same variant on May 5. The Filipina’s mother tested positive on May 7. The Indian engineer and the Filipina, on the other hand, did not tell Hong Kong authorities about this information.
“So we don’t know why they did not tell us but they might forget about the gathering or they deliberately hid the information from us,” the Hong Kong Information Services Department said.
