PH Government May Include Individuals Between Age 12 to 17 in COVID-19 Vaccination

PH GOVERNMENT – The Philippine government is planning to vaccinate the individuals age between 12 to 17 years old against COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to shake several healthcare systems in the world. One of the nations that is still greatly suffering from the spread of the disease now is the Philippines.

Following the high cases of COVID-19 recorded daily in the country, the whole Metro Manila which is considered as the epicenter of the disease is under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) measure now. The total cases in the country now is over 1-million.

The authorities continue to urge the people to prevent going outdoors most especially in public places if not for very essential purposes. For several weeks now, the country is recording at least 8,000 new cases of the disease in a day.

The Philippines is one of the countries that are currently lodging its vaccination program. COVID-19 vaccines including Sinovac, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V have already arrived in the country.

The top priority in the vaccination are the healthcare workers and the senior citizens. PH targets to achieve the “herd immunity” this year and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. is confident that it is within the reach.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the PH government is also planning to vaccinate people who are between age 12 to 17. It will be based on the conclusive reports on vaccine trials to the said age group.

According to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., there are several manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccine who are testing their product on individuals between 18 to 12 years of age. The PH government says there is a possibility of conclusive reports by the end of June.

Based on the report, Galvez stressed that the whole population cannot be fully safe if the individuals below 18 years of age have not been vaccinated against COVID-19. According to him, there are more than 29 million people in this age group.

In case vaccine findings from manufacturers are already available, it will be reviewed by the Food and Drug Administration (DFA). Pfizer, Novavax, and BioNtech are among those that are developing vaccines that can be given to individuals under 12 years old.
