Pres. Duterte Speaks on DOH Chief Duque Over the COVID-19 Response in PH
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said that Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III is the hero of the country’s COVID-19 response.
The Philippines is one of the nations that is now faced with a doubled challenged in fighting the spread of COVID-19. The total cases of coronavirus in the country has already surpassed the 1-million mark.
For weeks now, PH is recording at least 8,000 new cases of COVID-19 everyday. It prompted the national government and the health authorities to implement again stricter community quarantine measures in some parts of the country.
Currently, the whole Metro Manila is under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). Most parts of the country are under a Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
The country now is in the move to vaccinate the Filipinos and achieve the “herd immunity” against COVID-19. Currently, there is a total of 1,062,225 cases of the disease recorded in the country with 17,525 deaths and 975,234 recoveries.

The PH government previously cited that the country is faring better in handling the COVID-19 pandemic than several other nations. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte called DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III as the “hero” in the response of PH to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on the report, Pres. Duterte stressed that the Philippines is “doing good in the fight against COVID”. He cited the recovery rate in the country against the disease compared to other nations’.
According to the President, the critics of Duque are just using his name to get the spotlight. There were several instances in the past when certain individuals called for the resignation of the health chief.
Currently, PH is procuring more vaccines against COVID-19. However, the DOH Secretary previously said that it might not be able to achieve the “herd immunity” this year.
